From my little homestead, on the shores of Christiansen Lake, just outside Talkeetna, Alaska, I coax milk, cheese, eggs and familiar garden veggies for the table. From the surrounding birch forests, a rich harvest of somewhat less familiar foods flows into the larder. I like to think of my garden as a permaculture paradise of 10,000 acres. The foraging season is short, but without need of plowing, watering, weeding, and fencing, this gardener is free to wander - and to wonder - through the trees.
Here at Foraged, I should like to share some of the gifts of the Alaskan taiga. All quantities are limited by the brief seasonal availability, and by the hand harvesting, processing and packaging of each offering. Thank you for sharing these special gifts.
