Creosote displays varying characteristics throughout the seasons. In spring and summer, it features green leaves, flowers, white fluffy fruits, and sticky resin. In winter, the plant remains green to greenish-yellow, with less resin on leaves and occasional fluffy fruits.
Creosote is one of the oldest plants on the the planet. It has been used for thousands of years for it's healing properties. Average lifespan of the Creosote Bush is 1,250 years. The oldest known plant is 9,500 years old in Johnson Valley.
How to use your Creosote:
- Make your own salve, lotions, oil extract, tinctures, ext.
- Use it to make tea
- Hang in your shower and the steam will activate the oils in the creosote and create the scent of desert rain. Lasts 4 to 6 weeks.
- You can also use this bundle to burn for smudging
Creosote bush has been highly valued for its medicinal properties by desert peoples. Twigs and leaves may be boiled as tea, steamed, pounded into a powder, pressed into a poultice, or heated into an infusion. Native Americans used Creosote to treat aches and pains of both the joints and muscles. The Diegueno, the Cahuilla, the Pima, the Papago, and the Yavapai all claimed that creosote had anti-inflammatory, analgesic qualities. Application varies from bathing in a decoction of the leaves to applying a poultice to the sore area
