This listing is for Florida local Black Sapote fruit (Diospyros nigra). Also known as Chocolate Pudding Fruit, zapote prieto, and black soapapple. These fruits are grown in South Florida and without the use of chemicals.
What to expect:
Black sapote fruits range from fluffy to "wet" in texture (depending on the varietal) and bear a striking visual resemblance to chocolate pudding. These qualities make them an ideal addition to vegan chocolate milkshakes, baked goods, or eaten out of hand with a spoon. Although it’s a true persimmon, Black sapote’s namesake comes from its need to be eaten *very ripe and soft.*
These fruits are seasonably available & harvested on demand. Your fruits will be hard to borderline-soft upon arrival. Leave them on the counter until they begin to darken and become soft. Don't be alarmed if your fruit looks ugly or begins to leak a bit of sticky liquid. When ripe, the fruit should feel delicate, the skin should be very easily broken with a fingernail, and the fruit can be opened by gently pulling apart with two hands. Your fruits will contain 4-8 seeds each which can be planted for a future harvest of your very own black sapote fruits.
All fruits are grown without the use of pesticide or herbicide. Some fruits may be blemished as we do not cull/waste ugly fruits, but all fruits will be fresh & delicious.
